What our clients share about us

No Shortcuts

We absolutely loved working with LeRoy and his team on our new screened-in back porch. We really got our money’s worth. Everyone should have his work ethic and approach their work with high standards. So many contractors are trying to take shortcuts and get the most amount of money for the least amount of work. I wanted something that is quality.

When LeRoy came to talk with us, he really listened and tried to understand what we wanted. He was willing to work with us and and bounce ideas of what would and wouldn’t work, explaining the pros and cons of everything. His suggestions were great, and necessary. We were going to do the porch and wait a year for new siding, but LeRoy said they could do everything all together.

They worked within our budget and of course I added on a couple of things once I saw how wonderful their work was and what they could do. A bay window had to be replaced and I asked if I could do a window seat there inside the family room. He said yes, and it wouldn’t even be much more expensive than replacing the window. Everyone congregates there now if it is too cold to go outside. It’s a cozy nook. We also added windows on either side of the fireplace. LeRoy was concerned about the new porch blocking light to the family room. He knew what he was talking about as far as dimensions, and I had to trust him on that because I am not a good visualizer. He was right. It has really brightened up the room.

Their materials were great and they worked on a schedule. When they said they were going to be there, they were there. That is something I didn’t experience with other contractors—if something came up with another contractor I may not see them for days. But LeRoy and his crew were there rain or shine. Even in the midst of COVID the guys were very respectful and never came into the house unless they had to and always knocked on the door. They were there long enough that I felt like they were family.

When he says he wants his customers to be happy and satisfied, he means it. We want Sorensen to do our master bathroom next, so we are going to get on the docket for that.  They were such a joy to work with.

We were stuck and Sorensen picked up the pieces

When we bought our retirement home in Breinigsville we were still living in Seattle. The house had been neglected but had good bones and the goal was to do an open concept. Knowing the interior walls were going to be demo-ed, we came up with a plan with a local carpenter to do the work and install a 32-foot beam in our absence. He put some hard work in, but it was a lot of money and we didn’t know what was happening because he wasn’t communicating with us. It was just too big of an undertaking for one person and so he left.

We were stuck until we found LeRoy Sorensen. We were super happy that LeRoy was wiling to pick up the pieces because a lot of people don’t want to do that. He helped our concept get dialed-down to the point we could put it in a drawing. Now, my husband and I are carpenters and we have a big construction family, so we know the ropes. I moved back East and was living in a truck camper on the property. LeRoy has the manpower but he was good about letting me and my brother do some work. He has a great network of subcontractors that are pretty decent guys and he even allowed me to hire some of them, letting us cut costs. LeRoy is just a great guy. He’s super busy but unlike some other carpenters he gets back to you. His son works for him and even his wife is awesome. It’s an all-in-the-family business.

Counting on Sorensen for 40+ Years for Projects Large and Small

It is probably 40-plus years that I’ve known LeRoy and it’s been a great relationship over the entire time. There have been some small things and some larger projects but he is the person who comes first to mind when I have any kind of project because it is always done perfectly.

The first project was a huge plastering job. He knew just the people to get an absolutely phenomenal outcome. And I once called him about woodpeckers going through the stucco—I never thought in a million years that woodpeckers would do that, or knew woodpeckers were a protected species! I tried everything to get rid of them myself but nothing worked, so LeRoy’s crew came and sealed things up for me.

My husband passed away 15 years ago and he was better at knowing the kinds of things you need to do on the exterior of the house. Now LeRoy is there for me in so many excellent ways. He’s a great listener in terms of what you want to do but he’s also great person to suggest things. I once was thinking about replacing some windows and he said not to do it, because they don’t make windows that nice or in that size anymore. If it was up to him, he would  instead have the windows refurbished. He supervised that project.

When I have emergencies, Leroy is great. Someone once tried to pry open the garage door and LeRoy was there right away with a suggestion on how to keep it sealed and secure.

The latest thing he did was to replace a window and caulk around the entire house. The Ehrlich guy was by recently and he asked me who did the caulking. I asked why, and he said that he sees all kinds of houses out there with mice and other things but my house is nicely sealed and aesthetically sealed as well.

I’m out of state at the moment, but if the neighbors notice anything I can rely on LeRoy to check it out for me. I treasure him as someone I can count on.

We love it!
We hired Sorensen when the original bathroom in our 50-year-old house needed to be completely gutted and redone. When we learned the work would take four weeks, we realized we’d be without a full bathroom for a long time. The only other bathroom in the house was a powder room. Since I knew LeRoy through the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission and was familiar with his reputation, I told him we had a month-long vacation coming up and could give him house and garage keys if he could get the work done while we were away. He agreed, and sent us updates and photos all the time. When we got home, the first thing my wife looked at was the bathroom and she said, “I love it! I love it!”

It was a lot of work picking out the fixtures ahead of time but the vendors LeRoy sent us to see were excellent and we trusted him to come in with his crew to do the work. It all came together and I just love it! It turned out exactly how I hoped it would look.

We want to thank you for having Jason come out and touch up trim moldings, spackling and kitchen cabinet dents. He did a very nice job on everything and here is hoping the house settling is complete. We realize that this process wasn’t part of the construction contract. We very much appreciated the cooperative service we received when we called the office for assistance. You made the construction of the house a positive experience, and you made the return trip experience for us easy and comfortable that we attribute to the class contractor you are.

Thank you for the beautiful planter you sent to us. Soon I’ll have to transplant them and put them around the house. We also want to thank you for helping us build our wonderful house. We enjoy all the space we have now, if only I could find some things that are still packed away. Many people have commented on how beautiful it is.

–THANKS AGAIN!

Good Honest American Workers

I called a few roofers about replacing two roofs on my 130-year-old farmhouse. I have found in dealing with contractors lately that a lot of them don’t get back to you, or they take a long time when they do get around to you. But what sold me on Sorensen right from the get-go was how professional and polite they were just answering the phone. I can tell if someone is a shyster and not someone you want to deal with, and from that first call I knew LeRoy Sorensen was up front and straight and someone you want to work with.

When LeRoy came out to inspect my roofs he didn’t stay on the ground and take measurements like some roofers. He got up there and did the most thorough inspection. I noticed that his personality is to be very exacting and precise at what he does. All the way through the job, everything had to be done just right. That is the kind of person he is. And his guys weren’t playing loud music on boomboxes and yelling and doing all sorts of shenanigans up on the roof like I have seen other people doing on roofs around the neighborhood. His guys didn’t take breaks and worked all day long. They were good honest American workers. Sorensen were right here, did the job, on time, on budget, and I have no complaints.

We Brought Them Back 4 or 5 Times

We first used Sorensen to remove all the suspended ceilings in the house and install drywall. Every day we cleared out two or three rooms to let the crew work, and at the end of each day they offered to help us move the furniture back, even though that’s not a part of their job. It was great working together. Because that project went well and the workmanship was so good we decided to bring them back four or five times for other things.

We did throw LeRoy a curveball. We wanted a deck with a ramp into the backyard. It’s an aging thing and the existing steps were a pain in the neck. LeRoy asked us how big we wanted it but we didn’t know, we didn’t think about it. That’s the thing—he pictures it in his mind as you’re telling him suggestions. They never had a request for a ramp before. He also suggested Trex instead of lumber. He just engineered it out and did a fantastic job and it looks as good as the day it was put in.

There are guys who still work for LeRoy that were there when they worked on the ceilings. That is another thing. Everyone is so professional. Last summer they replaced the outside cellar door and 50-year-old wooden steps into our basement. Over the years they have also replaced windows in our house and garage, and in the bathrooms they enlarged a shower, removed one linen closet and built another, and installed a new door.

Obviously, you don’t use a guy four or five times if you don’t like him. That’s the proof right there.

Aging Splendidly in Place in Orefield

We’re putting an addition onto the first floor of the house for a bedroom and bathroom suite because we are getting older and going up the stairs is probably not going to be attractive in the future. I’m 82 and my wife is 81. The architect recommended a couple of contractors to us, LeRoy among them. LeRoy actually did a deck for us a few years ago. He really did a nice job and was willing to do strange things because I have strange tastes when it comes to design. I have a mathematical background and insisted he put a parabolic curve into the edge of the deck.

The new addition will be 784 square feet and also have some interesting geometric features. The bathroom has an electronic picture window: It’s opaque but when you hit a switch it becomes 95 percent transparent. Its dimensions follow the Golden Ratio. Right now we are working to design the shower enclosure: Two sides of it are one long piece of half-inch-thick glass that curves at one end before heading into the wall. Two vanities, dressing table, Toto bidet, Jacuzzi tub.

In the bedroom there will be six almost floor-to-ceiling windows lined up to form an arc, with blinds in them that close electronically. Normal architects like 90-degree angles and straight lines, but the addition will be anything but that. They did insist on making it ADA compliant.

The addition includes a full basement as well; right now they are rerouting the existing sewage system.

LeRoy is the general contractor for the job. He is very careful when he does things—more like “Measure four times, cut once”. He is also very reliable and easy to talk to, and that matters when you’re building.

I just trusted him.

Four years ago, when I needed shingles replaced on my New Tripoli cabin I called three contractors. I ended up going with the lowest bid, but never forgot meeting LeRoy Sorensen, who was one of the other bidders. I really liked his company motto of Done Correctly—As Agreed—No Excuses. Three years later when a tree fell in a windstorm and destroyed our front deck, LeRoy was the only contractor I called. I just trusted him. At the time I had been watching his work on an addition to a house a mile down the road. It was a beautiful job. I saw the quality of his work and didn’t have the patience to sort out one tradesman after another to fix the deck. Once the deck was rebuilt I was so impressed by the craftsmanship and by how neatly the crew cleaned up the jobsite that I engaged him to rebuild the roof, correcting work by the previous contractor that was not very high quality. By that point I knew that whatever work LeRoy was going to do would be done well, at a reasonable price and on time. I just trusted him, and that trust was well placed.

NEW TRIPOLI

Thanks so much Leroy. The guys did a great job and now I have cool breezes and working doors – Hooray. We appreciate all the super work you did.

We would like to thank you for your time during the purchase of our new house. I have always dreamed of owning a home, particularly an old farmhouse, but this certainly doesn’t compare to all the repairs that I would have to do. We are very pleased and think it is great that we don’t have to repair or paint and can gradually ad things to the house. We also have noticed a lot of added features to make the house extra special and even say, Leroy did an excellent job. It is very obvious that you take pride in all your work. We will think of you often since you created a happy house for the booth of us. Again thank you for all your time, consideration, expertise, and most of all friendship during the time of this wonderful endeavor.
